Ìèðîâûå îêåàíû âûïîëíÿþò âàæíåéøóþ ôóíêöèþ - îíè ïîãëîùàþò îêîëî òðåòè óãëåêèñëîãî ãàçà, âûáðàñûâàåìîãî â àòìîñôåðó. Ýòî ïîìîãàåò çàìåäëÿòü òåìïû ãëîáàëüíîãî ïîòåïëåíèÿ, íî èìååò è îáðàòíóþ ñòîðîíó. Ðàñòâîðÿÿñü â âîäå, CO2 îáðàçóåò óãîëüíóþ êèñëîòó, êîòîðàÿ ïîâûøàåò êîíöåíòðàöèþ âîäîðîäíûõ èîíîâ è ïðèâîäèò ê ñíèæåíèþ pH. Âîäà ñòàíîâèòñÿ áîëåå êèñëîé, à ïîñëåäñòâèÿ ýòîãî ïðîöåññà óæå çàìåòíû äëÿ ìîðñêèõ ýêîñèñòåì.
Ñðåäíèé ïîêàçàòåëü êèñëîòíîñòè îêåàíà ñåé÷àñ ðàâåí ïðèìåðíî 8,1, òîãäà êàê åùå íåäàâíî çà óñëîâíóþ íîðìó áðàëè çíà÷åíèå 8,2. Ïî ïðîãíîçàì, ê 2300 ãîäó óðîâåíü ìîæåò óïàñòü äî 7,3 - ýòî ñäåëàåò îêåàí ïî÷òè â äåñÿòü ðàç êèñëåå íûíåøíåãî ñîñòîÿíèÿ. Äëÿ îáèòàòåëåé ìîðåé ïîäîáíûå èçìåíåíèÿ îçíà÷àþò íå ïðîñòî ñäâèã õèìè÷åñêîãî ðàâíîâåñèÿ, à ðåàëüíóþ óãðîçó ôèçèîëîãè÷åñêèì ïðîöåññàì, íà÷èíàÿ îò ôîðìèðîâàíèÿ ðàêîâèí ó ìîëëþñêîâ è çàêàí÷èâàÿ îõîòíè÷üèì ïîâåäåíèåì àêóë.

Êîñìè÷åñêèå òåõíîëîãèè ñòàíîâÿòñÿ ÷àñòüþ èíôðàñòðóêòóðû, ñïîñîáíîé ïîâëèÿòü íà ëîãèñòèêó, ìåäèöèíó è äàæå âîåííóþ ñôåðó. Èäåÿ èñïîëüçîâàòü îðáèòó êàê ãëîáàëüíûé ñêëàä äëÿ ñðî÷íûõ ïîñòàâîê çâó÷àëà åùå íåäàâíî êàê íàó÷íàÿ ôàíòàñòèêà, íî ñòàðòàï Inversion ïûòàåòñÿ ïðåâðàòèòü åå â ïðàêòè÷åñêîå ðåøåíèå.
Êîìïàíèÿ Inversion ïîÿâèëàñü â íà÷àëå 2021 ãîäà áëàãîäàðÿ Äæàñòèíó Ôèàñêåòòè è Îñòèíó Áðèããñó, êîòîðûå íà òîò ìîìåíò áûëè ñòóäåíòàìè Áîñòîíñêîãî óíèâåðñèòåòà. Ó÷åíûå èç Ãåðìàíèè ðåøèëè íàó÷èòü êîðîâ ïîëüçîâàòüñÿ ñïåöèàëüíîé òóàëåòîì. Îíè ñ÷èòàþò, ÷òî ýòî ìîæåò ïîìî÷ü ôåðìåðàì ñíèçèòü çàãðÿçíåíèå âîäû è ñîêðàòèòü âûáðîñû ïàðíèêîâûõ ãàçîâ.
Êîðîâèé íàâîç ìîæåò ñòàòü ïðîáëåìîé, îñîáåííî åñëè îíè íàõîäÿòñÿ â ñòîéëàõ, ãäå ñìåøèâàþòñÿ ìî÷à è ôåêàëèè. Ïîòîìó ÷òî îí ïðîèçâîäèò àììèàê - íåïðÿìîé ïàðíèêîâûé ãàç.
Ýêñïåðèìåíò ïðîâîäèëè íà ôåðìå, êîòîðîé óïðàâëÿåò Íàó÷íî-èññëåäîâàòåëüñêèé èíñòèòóò áèîëîãèè ñåëüñêîõîçÿéñòâåííûõ æèâîòíûõ â Äàììåðñòîðôå. Èññëåäîâàòåëè Ëèíäñè Ìýòüþñ è Äóãëàñ Ýëëèôô èç Îêëåíäñêîãî óíèâåðñèòåòà ðàññêàçàëè, ÷òî îáó÷åíèå ïðîâîäèëè ïî ïðèíöèïó "êíóòà è ïðÿíèêà". Äëÿ ýòîãî îíè îáóñòðîèëè ñïåöèàëüíóþ çîíó ïîä íàçâàíèåì MooLoos, óñòëàííóþ èñêóññòâåííîé òðàâîé, ãäå êîðîâû ìîãóò áåçîïàñíî ìî÷èòüñÿ áåç óãðîçû äëÿ îêðóæàþùåé ñðåäû.
Íà ïåðâîì ýòàïå òåëÿò ïîî÷åðåäíî çàãîíÿëè â MooLoos è âîçíàãðàæäàëè èõ åäîé, åñëè òàì îíè äåëàëè ñâîå "ëåãêîå äåëî". Ñëåäóþùèì øàãîì ñòàëî óâåëè÷åíèå ðàññòîÿíèÿ äî òóàëåòà. Åñëè ñëó÷àëèñü "àâàðèè" â äðóãîé ÷àñòè ñàðàÿ, êîðîâ îïðûñêèâàëè âîäîé. Äîñòàòî÷íî áûñòðî 11 èç 16 òåëÿò ïðèó÷èëèñü ê òóàëåòó.
Êîðîâû ñàìîñòîÿòåëüíî èíèöèèðîâàëè âõîä â òóàëåò, ïðîèçâîäÿ â ñðåäíåì îò 15 äî 20 ìî÷åèñïóñêàíèé. À â êîíöå òðåõ ÷åòâåðòåé æèâîòíûõ äåëàëè òðè ÷åòâåðòè ìî÷åèñïóñêàíèé â òóàëåòå.
Åñëè â Ãåðìàíèè êîðîâû â îñíîâíîì íàõîäÿòñÿ â ñàðàÿõ, òî ñëåäóþùèì øàãîì áóäåò ïîñìîòðåòü, êàê ñèñòåìà áóäåò ðàáîòàòü â êîíòåêñòå Íîâîé Çåëàíäèè, ãäå êðóïíûé ðîãàòûé ñêîò ïðîâîäèò áîëüøóþ ÷àñòü âðåìåíè â îòêðûòûõ îòðÿäàõ.
Îäíàêî æèâîòíûõ ñîáèðàþò íà äîéêó è ïðèåì äîáàâîê, ïîýòîìó ýòî âðåìÿ îíè ìîãëè áû ïîëüçîâàòüñÿ ñïåöèàëüíîé òóàëåòîì. Íå ñ÷èòàÿ òîãî, èõ ìîæíî óñòàíîâèòü è íà îòêðûòîì ïðîñòðàíñòâå. È äàæå åñëè òàêîé ïîäõîä áóäåò íå ñëèøêîì óñïåøíûì, ó÷åíûå óáåæäåíû, ÷òî ýòî âñå ðàâíî èìåëî áû ñóùåñòâåííûå ýêîëîãè÷åñêèå ïðåèìóùåñòâà.
